Shipping from Turkey to Jordan: Which Mode, How Long, and What Drives the Price?
Shipping from Turkey to Jordan can be done by sea (container or Ro-Ro from Mersin or Iskenderun to the Port of Aqaba), by air (Istanbul to Amman) or by road (through Syria). The right choice depends on cargo type, weight, volume, urgency and delivery terms (EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP, DDP). This guide is for exporters and senders who need to understand cost drivers, transit-time logic, Jordanian customs points and how to request a quote.
Freight rates and schedules change often with origin city, destination, container type, season and carrier capacity, so we explain how the price is built rather than quoting a fixed tariff. For a quote on your own shipment, use the form below.
Turkey–Jordan Shipping Options
Ocean freight: FCL and LCL via the Port of Aqaba
Aqaba, on the Red Sea, is Jordan's only seaport. Containers from Turkey are typically loaded at Mersin, Iskenderun or Ambarli and usually reach Aqaba on transshipment services. Full container loads (FCL, 20' and 40') suit larger volumes, while LCL suits smaller consignments. Service structure, transshipment port and weekly frequency vary by carrier, so the current service should be checked before booking.
Ro-Ro and road: trailer door-to-door
Two routes stand out for trailer-based door-to-door transport: road through Syria and the Iskenderun–Aqaba Ro-Ro line. The Ro-Ro line was announced in 2016 so Turkish trucks could reach Aqaba without crossing Syria; its current sailing status must be confirmed separately. The Syria corridor is targeted to be reactivated during 2026, and trucks are reported to be crossing at points such as Nasib–Jaber, but administrative issues around customs procedures, roads and visas are still reported. A road decision should therefore reflect border conditions on the shipping date. See also our article on road freight to Syria in 2026.
Air freight: urgent and high-value cargo
Air freight from Istanbul to Amman is used for urgent spare parts, samples, technical equipment and high-value goods. Carriers such as Turkish Airlines operate scheduled services on the Istanbul–Amman route; capacity and flight days change seasonally. As an IATA cargo agent in Turkey, Dexpell books airline capacity operationally.
Courier/express or air freight?
Documents, samples and small parcels fit courier/express; pallets, heavy weight and commercial cargo fit air freight or ocean. See our Courier & Express service page for details.
What Determines the Freight Cost?
Main cost items: origin city and loading port/airport, destination (Aqaba, Amman, Zarqa), container type or chargeable weight, cargo type (dangerous, temperature-controlled, out-of-gauge), Incoterm, carrier surcharges (fuel, security, peak season), terminal and handling charges, inland trucking in Jordan, customs and taxes. For air and courier shipments, chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
Market average note: For this update we could not find a dated, reliable, published average for the Turkey–Jordan lane for ocean (per 20'/40' container) or air freight (per kg). Rather than guess a number, we explain the mechanism and calculate the current amount from your cargo details during the quote. Dexpell's Europe courier rate (USD 9 per kg) does not apply to Jordan.
Worked Cost Simulation
1) Chargeable weight example
Courier/express (divisor 5000): 3 cartons, each 60 × 40 × 40 cm and 14 kg. Volumetric weight: 60×40×40 ÷ 5000 = 19.2 kg per carton, 57.6 kg in total. Actual weight is 42 kg, so the chargeable weight is 57.6 kg.
Air freight (divisor 6000): 1 pallet, 120 × 100 × 110 cm and 180 kg. Volumetric weight: 1,320,000 ÷ 6000 = 220 kg. Actual weight is 180 kg, so the chargeable weight is 220 kg.
2) Landed cost example for Jordan
Jordan's standard general sales tax rate is 16%, calculated on the CIF value plus customs duty. Customs duty varies by tariff (HS) code; the 10% below is a hypothetical example only and the rate for your product must be confirmed with the Jordan Customs Department or Dexpell.ai.
Example: goods value USD 10,000 + freight and insurance USD 1,200 = CIF USD 11,200. Customs duty (assumed 10%): USD 1,120. Sales tax base: 11,200 + 1,120 = USD 12,320. Sales tax (16%): USD 1,971.20. Total taxes: USD 3,091.20. Landed cost (goods + freight + taxes): USD 14,291.20.
Note: figures are an illustration, not a price quote. Other items such as importer registration or additional fees may apply, and the current status of any preferential treatment for Turkish-origin goods should be checked.

How Is Transit Time Calculated?
Transit time is made up of port-to-port or airport-to-airport time, transshipment and waiting, export clearance in Turkey, import clearance in Jordan and final delivery. Sea freight depends on transshipment and sailing frequency, air freight on flight days and customs checks, road on border crossings. Giving an exact number of days without the current schedule and border situation would be misleading, so a cargo-specific estimate is given in the quote. Typical causes of delay: missing documents, physical customs inspection, peak season and missed connections.
Jordan Customs and Required Documents
In Jordan, declarations are submitted through the ASYCUDA system and routed to a green, orange or red channel (red means physical inspection). Commercial imports typically require a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin (chamber of commerce approved), bill of lading (sea) or air waybill, and an import license where applicable. Some goods (food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, telecom equipment) may need prior approval or licensing; some are prohibited or under state monopoly.
Jordan suspended the Jordan–Turkey free trade agreement in 2018, so check the current position before relying on preferential duty treatment. For courier imports, a low-value duty-free threshold (for example JOD 100 for apparel) is reported; commercial goods need formal clearance. For samples and documents, state the nature of the shipment clearly on the invoice.
Which Products Are Shipped to Jordan?
Common Turkish exports to Jordan include machinery and equipment, construction materials, furniture, textiles and apparel, automotive spare parts, packaged food and industrial products. Out-of-gauge or heavy machinery is planned as project cargo; sensitive or urgent items go by air.
Delivery Areas
Aqaba is Jordan's Red Sea gateway, while consumption and industrial centers are concentrated around the capital Amman and nearby Zarqa and Irbid. Containers move from Aqaba to the Amman region by truck. Jordan can also serve as a transit link toward Iraq and Gulf markets; see alternative shipping options from Turkey to Iraq and alternative routes to the Gulf.

Can I ship a container from Turkey to Jordan?
Yes. 20' and 40' containers can be sent from ports such as Mersin, Iskenderun or Ambarli to the Port of Aqaba, mostly on transshipment services. LCL is considered for small volumes.
How is freight cost to Jordan calculated?
Container type or chargeable weight, cargo type, Incoterm, surcharges, terminal charges and destination trucking and customs items make up the total. Request a quote for the current amount.
What are Jordan's import duty and sales tax rates?
The standard sales tax is 16%, calculated on CIF value plus customs duty. Duty depends on the HS code, so confirm the current rate for your product.
Which documents are required for Jordan?
Generally a commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, bill of lading or AWB and, depending on the product, an import license. Product-specific approvals may apply.
Is air freight available from Turkey to Jordan?
Yes, Istanbul to Amman air freight is available and suits urgent, sensitive or high-value cargo. Charges are based on volumetric or actual weight.
Can goods be trucked from Turkey to Jordan through Syria?
The corridor is targeted for reactivation and trucks are crossing, but administrative difficulties are reported. The decision is made after confirming the situation on the shipping date.
Does Dexpell offer door-to-door delivery to Jordan?
Yes. Loading, export clearance, transport, destination clearance coordination and delivery can be planned end to end.
